Announcing the deal with the British squad today, Thursday, 5th March, Dundee 20-year-old Hutchison will embark on his first season with Ferrari power and maiden campaign in the ELMS as team-mate to American drivers Gunnar Jeanette and Rodrigo Sales in the LMGTE class.
Over the past few years Hutchison has more than confirmed his growing stature in the realms of GT endurance racing, winning multiple races at GT4 level and, last year, becoming a podium finisher in his first full season of GT3 action in Blancpain Endurance Series [now GT World Challenge Europe].
Starting 2020 very competitively with second place in the GT3-AM class in the Hankook 24 Hours of Dubai in January, driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3, the Scotsman now joins one of the world’s premier endurance championships featuring some of the globe’s most competitive professional racers.
“It’s really exciting to be joining JMW in European Le Mans Series this year in the Ferrari, it’ll be another fresh challenge and one I can’t wait to begin”, said the Hutchison Technologies, Evoson and In-Home Displays backed driver, “The team has enjoyed a lot of success in the championship in LMGTE and the car is certainly proven, so I’m looking forward to having my first run very soon.
“Over the last couple of years I have gained a lot of experience in endurance racing and last year, of course, Blancpain was another step-up for me in GT3. I’m aiming to put everything I’ve learnt into practice in LMGTE this year, and looking forward to teaming-up with Gunnar and Rodrigo. I’m sure it’ll be a great season.”
European Le Mans Series is contested over six races, each of them four hours in duration, with a combined grid of 40 cars across the LMP2, LMP3 and LMGTE classes – and this year’s ELMS is set to be as spectacular as ever.
Visiting some of Europe’s most high-profile circuits, such as Monza in Italy, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium and, of course, Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in the UK, the championship will get underway at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain over the weekend 4th/5th April.
Hutchison’s new team for 2020, JMW Motorsport, won the LMGTE title in ELMS in 2017 as well as the GTEAm crown. In 2018, JMW were Vice-Champions in LMGTE and then third in the standings last season in the hotly contested category.
